SWOT-   STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES, AND THREATS.

SWOT analysis is a strategic planning technique used to help a person or an organization identify its strengths, weaknesses (influenced by internal factors), and opportunities and threats (external factors).

DISCUSSION

DND (daily needs delivery) LLP was formed by Sam Malhotra and Rajish Gupta in 2017. The LLP started with the debt-free source of funds of 15 lakhs is an app-based ordering system that provides for dairy products- milk, cottage cheese, and curd. This entity has grown over in 3 cities – Bengaluru (head office), Delhi, and Hyderabad. An evaluation of the current business environment and internal capabilities is conducted by SWOT analysis.

STRENGTHS

THE LLP has its roots in 3 metropolitan cities where e-commerce is on the rise. An app-based business that meets daily dairy requirements of people has a bright future, which has lea to increase in operations of DND. Moreover, they have a hyper-local delivery partner team of 80 people and a skilled corporate team. With features like delivery calendar, wallet payments provide transparency and an effective delivery system. These strengths work together to produce a cohesive business, where the entity endeavors to offer great products and customer services to improve sales.

WEAKNESSES

Despite the strengths of the business, there are also several weaknesses. Firstly, a lack of customer satisfaction. There has been a lot of complaints regarding wrong or no delivery of products, inaccessible email id, quality of products delivered. This has to lead to a fall in customer loyalty that they are on the verge of discontinuing services.

Another problem is the loss of inventory due to the perishable nature of goods. Further, some parts of subscriber's services have not started yet, which results in loss of market share. Also, DND is facing cash flow problems and a low current ratio.

OPPORTUNITIES.

Apart from the internal strengths and weaknesses, the external environment provides a lot of opportunities. As strength-opportunities go, there is still room for improvement available in every aspect of the business. The service sector is emerging in e-commerce, which provides it an excellent platform for the future. There are a lot more marketing opportunities available in the market. Even weaknesses can be converted into opportunities by gaining the lost market share. Inefficient and ineffective delivery systems can be improved.

THREATS

The dynamic business environment also introduces risks. DND deals with daily needs products, which are generally provided by traditional competitors. Convincing customers to use DND's services would be a challenge. Moreover, new entrants are coming as the market is similar to perfect competition. Frequent technological advancement is also a challenge.

CONCLUSION

The DND LLP is in a stage of survival of the business. There are a lot of opportunities available that will turnaround the business. However, if problems are not solved timely, it will result in an accumulation of losses and shut down of operations. A proper training to staff, effective marketing, building customer loyalty, financial support, and implementation of a quality management system will provide the solution for the same and bring the entity back on track to achieve its objectives.

MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES.

Almost all the management principles, H. Fayol's general management principles and FW Taylor's scientific principles, are applicable in one or the other way. In further, each department's respective principles come into play. The management principles identified and relevant to this case study are-

General management principle-

  1. Division of Work

The employees are specialized in different areas, and they have different skills. Therefore, work is divided for specialization that promotes the efficiency of the workforce and increases productivity.

        2.Authority and Responsibility

The accompanying power or authority gives the management the right to give orders to the subordinates. This comes crucial in leadership and general management stage.

3.Discipline

This is about obedience. It is often a part of the core values of a vision in the form of ethical conduct. DND needs to be disciplined in its action.

4.Unity of Direction

All employees deliver the same activities that can be linked to the same objectives. All events must be carried out by one group that forms a team. These activities are decided by planning.

5.Remuneration

Motivation and productivity are close to one another as far as the smooth running of an organization is concerned. There's been a lot of complaints regarding the delivery workforce

6.Stability of Tenure of Personnel

Management strives to minimize employee turnover and to have the right staff in the right place. This is the main focus of DND.

7.Initiative

Employees should be allowed to express new ideas. This encourages interest and involvement and creates added value for the company. This principle is the key for survival and growth of DND, LLP

8.Esprit de Corps

This principle of management stands for striving for the involvement and unity of the employees. Managers are responsible for the development of morale in the workplace, individually and in the area of communication. IN this stage of hardship. DND needs to be motivated and work effectively and efficiently.

Other principles like the scalar chain, unity of command, and direction order comes into play but are moulded in respect with needs of the organization. DND works in a matrix rather than straight-line management.

Scientific principle.

1.Science, Not Rule of Thumb:

To increase organizational efficiency, the 'Rule of Thumb' method should be substituted by the methods developed through scientific analysis of work. This is where IT and business analysts come into play.

2.Harmony, Not Discord:

Both the management and the workers should realize the importance of each other. It becomes possible by-

  • sharing a part of surplus with workers
  • training of employees,
  • division of work
  • team spirit
  • positive attitude
  • sense of discipline
  • sincerity etc.

This all is in DND plans.

3.Cooperation, Not Individualism:

This principle is an extension of the principle of 'Harmony, not discord' and lays stress on mutual collaboration between workers and the management. Therefore, instead of removing employees, DND focuses on providing training and incentives to improve performance.

4.Development of each and every person to his or her greatest efficiency and prosperity:

The efficiency of any organization also depends on the skills and capabilities of its employees to a great extent. Thus, providing training to the workers was considered essential to learn the best method developed through the use of a scientific approach.

Leadership management principles-

A leader should cover all the principles -

  • Time management
  • Quality management
  • Strategic management
  • Leadership management
  • Operations management
  • Leadership styles

This is because a leader is nowadays is not only a command giving position but someone who has motivation and skill to lead with broad knowledge.

Optional Assignment
ConclusionSWOT ANALYSIS- The DND LLP is in a stage of survival of the business. VISION DOCUMENT- The vision DOCUMENT provides the foundation for strategic planning. Without the mission or vision statement, there is no basis for the strategic plan of an organization. There is no direction for the organization to go in. The mission statement tells who the organization is and what they stand for. The vision document gives a broad overview of where the organization sees itself in the next few years. These statements should be revisited and edited annually or as major changes in the organization occur. The staff should be included in the strategic planning process. They are able to give to provide insight from their personal experiences in their career field.
