Assignment Taken

Develop the IT plan and strategy for the international expansion of the business.

Case Understanding

Ramalingam Foods is a fast-food restaurant founded in 1965 by Ramalingam Venkatesh in South Mumbai. When his son Vijay Ramalingam took over the business, he wanted to expand his business area, but the shelf life of the wet Idli Dosa was very low. So, he had the innovative idea of making Idli Dosa dough in powder form. Management has discovered that some people buy instant mixes domestically (India) and sell them abroad, primarily through stores in the Middle East, Southeast Asian countries, and the United Kingdom. Vijay proposed the idea of expanding the business internationally. He has no experience in international business, so he hired us as a management consultant to expand the international market. They currently do not have the necessary permits and licenses to do international business. In addition, they have sufficient capital and business insights to expand into multiple foreign countries. IT Department would play a crucial role in smoothening up the process and using the technology so that the whole process of distribution and management becomes efficient and provides fast delivery for better consumer experience.

BCS Solution Summary

IT Department would be creating the website of the business to mark the global presence as a brand and an application for inventory management system at all the warehouses located in India and Singapore.

Solution

Creating Website

With the advent of technology, consumer behavior has changed in the digital era. To grow business and build as a brand it becomes imperative to have a website in this era. It increases the credibility and legitimacy of the business. Benefits of having it are as follows:

  1. Maximizes ROI
  2. Increases Credibility
  3. Control the Narrative
  4. Best platform for showcasing offers
  5. Expand the working hours
  6. Increases sales

Plan of the Website

Need a team initially comprising of a Lead, 2 developers and 2 testers.

The website would have the following features:

  1. Add to Cart option - Select the products, its size from wide variety of options available
  2. Customer Experience - Provide Feedback and Rating
  3. Check out – Various payments facilities to be integrated
  4. A separate section announcing various offers
  5. Option to repeat the order
  6. Chat Support
  7. Referral System

The whole project would be build using agile and scrum methodology. After the release of all the features the team size can be changed to a lead, 1 developer, 1 tester and 2 BI professionals.

Developer and tester can help to build upon new features or provide support for the existing one. BI Professionals would help us to get the useful and insightful information from the data collected via the website which would ultimately help to make the informed business decisions.

Creating Inventory, Billing and System for Warehouse Management

Building up an application for the complete management of warehouse spread across the globe of Ramalingam Foods. It will manage and store the data about the products, their manufacturing and expiry dates, their price and stock which is available. It will help to manage the details related to all the products in a very easy way. This will reduce the time consumed to do the same task to a large extent as compared to when the same task is done on paper.

Technology Specification –

Dual core processor (minimum)

2 GB RAM (minimum)

2 GB of available hard disk space for installation

1024 x 768 display monitor screen (recommended)

The application would have following features and options:

  1. Sign up and Sign In for every employee
  2. Product Inventory page – Find the complete details about the availability of the product in a particular outlet
  3. Add new Product – To add new product in the list
  4. Update Product – To update the details of existing products
  5. Billing Page
  6. View Bills
  7. View Sales – To view sales within a range of dates
  8. Change Password

Later this application can be switched to commercial web application as well.

If this business proves to be profitable when expanded then the amount can be invested to switch to SAP module which can be used to streamline processes like order taking, daily progress report etc.

Subscription for an Antivirus to protect the systems from any external attack.

Conclusion
The IT department would help the business to expand online and offline as well. The department would use analytics to further gauge the demand and accordingly enhance the existing products or come up with a new one.
