BCS Solution Summary

The case is about a company named SELCO which provides rural energy solutions to underprivileged and low income group.There are various myths that the company has denied by giving cheap sources of solar energy to the people. But the company has been able to reach 4,50,000 households in 20 years.

Solution

Being a head of marketing department, the startegy for SELCO should be :

1. Since it is mentioned in the case study that SELCO has been able to strive in the market for a long time because of its innovation. It must be having adequate resources to do research and bring oyt innovative product. So, in my opinion the company should opt for brand endorsements which will help the company to have better market penetration.

2. As the company is engaged in upliftment of the rural economy in Idia, the company should target housewives because in rural areas housewives dont do white collar jobs and usually stay at home. So, the company should send women volunteers to the housewives and create brand awareness among them.

3. The company should opt for Personal selling and the salesperson should be from rural area because the salesperson would be familiar with area, he would know the rural language better and also he would be having close relations with the people which would help in creating trust and loyalty.

4. Push up sales promotion startegies should be followed which includes free display materials like banners, sign boards etc.

5. There should be free demos in the rural areas as village people are illiterate and will get convinced only by seeing a demo and will only buy a product if it creates vaue for them.
